My wife and I call each other “nene.” One day, millions of years ago, some Canadian geese got lost and landed in Hawaii. And they evolved into ground-nesting Hawaiian geese that mate for life. And then my wife and I went to Hawaii and learned about this fabulous monogamous bird, and that is the story of how we came to call each other “nene.” Here the cover of a card I made for her:
I am reminded of Nick Offerman’s advice about making cards for your significant other. It appears in his book Paddle Your Own Canoe: “Make a card for your significant other! Go to your printer. There’s paper in there. Locate it and pull out a few sheets … Fold one in half and draw a heart on the front. Open it up and write I LOVE YOU on the inside. Sign your name. You will get kissed — big time.”
